As a student of art in the 1970's  when I became interested in abstract art I formed the view that the square was the ideal format  for abstract work.  When I worked by physical means it became my favourite canvas shape.    As I worked I liked to rotate the canvas to try to achieve overall balance in the design - with the large canvases I'd view them through binoculars reversed to reduce the work to a thumbnail size.

I haven't used this method since working digitally but today decided it was time to try revisit the method and these 4 images are the result.
