The pictures I create are never preconceived -  I'm not a fan of conceptual art and the influence it has had on art today.   My titles don't become apparent until the work is advanced and a theme begins to emerge.

The title 'gondola' was influenced by the central shape which to me evoked he feeling of a floating capsule -  one definition of gondola is of  'an enclosed compartment suspended from an airship or balloon'.

In this work I wanted to use more complex shapes for the composition and I chose the spherical one and the grid form to be the dominant elements.    The diamond shape provided a contrast to both and hopefully made the image more interesting to look at.

I use black a lot as a background in my digital work.   With other mediums its not easy to work on an entirely black ground - collage is one method possible.  I find that black  emphatically defines the picture plane but at the same time enhances the feeling of  flying and floating and suspension  in an infinitely space.
